ARTIST TALK WITH LAUREL JOHANNESSON

ON AIR October 26! In conjunction with Johannesson's Online Exclusive Show WAKE

A collaboration with All About Art Podcast, by Art Historian and Curator Alexandra Steinacker Clark.

Playing on Air on all main Podcast Platforms.

In her lush, highly charged photographs and moving image works, Laurel Johannesson examines various psychological states of being, using the beach or shoreline as a liminal space. She focuses her camera primarily on her own body and the bodies of others, that often act as doppelgängers of the artist, situating them in locations that abound with psychological and often physical tension, with subjects frequently caught in the middle of ambiguous scenarios or in seemingly emotional states.

ARTIST TALK WITH ISHITA CHAKRABORTY

ON AIR  June 13! In conjunction with Chakraborty's Solo Exhibition CAN YOU DIVIDE THE SKY? at VOLTA Basel Art Fair

A collaboration with All About Art Podcast, by Art Historian and Curator Alexandra Steinacker Clark.

Playing on Air on all main Podcast Platforms.

Ishita Chakraborty (b.1989) is an artist and poet born in West Bengal, India. She lives and works between Switzerland and India.

Chakraborty’s artistic practice includes drawings, installations, poetry, performance, and sound. The context of her works is marked by the traces of displacement, traumas of colonialism, articulation in language, orality and identity. She investigates the strategies and the discourses of resistance narrated by individuals — often the subalterns. Her work is political, powerful, lyrical, and has been honored with several awards.

RECLAIMING THE FEMALE BODY & MORE. ARTIST TALK WITH ALINE ALAGEM

In Aline Alagem’s works, feminin sensuality is both a metaphor and realization of manifesting one's self. The compositions and collage-like altered scenes in Alagem’s figurative paintings hint to hidden layers that flow beneath the surface. Moments of secret longing and pleasure are “planted” in frosty arctic landscapes, asking about the possibility and impossibility of reaching the edge of desire — becoming it, or being lost in it.

A collaboration with All About Art Podcast, by Art Historian and Curator Alexandra Steinacker Clark.

Playing on Air on all main Podcast Platforms.

Alagem creates moments of glorious, complex intimacy between women or from their perspective, by challenging the historical position of women as passive subjects, bringing them down from their male made pedestal to an arena where they are no longer only the vessels for other’s desires, but the feeling, longing heroines creating their own story.

PERSONAL AND POETIC: ARTIST TALK WITH APRIL MARTEN

Enjoy the conversation with artist April Marten about art, consumerism, the artist’s life experiences and the impact of social roles and norms.

A collaboration with All About Art Podcast, by Art Historian and Curator Alexandra Steinacker Clark.

Playing on Air on all main Podcast Platforms.

Combining fine art materials and processes with consumer-ephemera, Marten constructs narratives that are both otherworldly and familiar. Using art as a channel, for connection and critical thought, Marten parses out the formation of cultural identity via social pressures such as, what we purchase, consume, and digest — whether they be material goods or ideas. Through the creation of art experiences and collectible works of art, the artist invites audiences to celebrate the spirit of sacred individuality that makes us human and ties us together.
